Upon arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a Tanzania Globe Tour representative will greet you and take you to your hotel. Your accommodation is prepared for a relaxing stay, offering comfortable rooms, hot showers, friendly staff, a swimming pool, and reliable internet access. In the evening, you’ll meet with our team for a detailed briefing to ensure you’re fully prepared for the adventure ahead.
Private tour packages include shared airport transfers for your group. Additional fees apply for extra individual transfers, so coordinating your group’s arrival and departure times is the best way to avoid extra costs.
Your guide and mountain support team will meet you at the hotel in the morning for a short briefing before you set off. From there, you’ll drive to the eastern entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park — the Marangu Gate (1,860 m / 6,102 ft). After completing the necessary registration and permit procedures, your trek begins with a steady hike toward Mandara Hut (2,720 m / 8,922 ft).
This first section of the route takes you through lush rainforest, where brief tropical showers are common. It’s a good idea to pack rain gear and an extra set of dry clothes. Upon reaching Mandara Hut, the support crew will handle all camp preparations and serve lunch so you can relax.
Along the Marangu Route, all overnights are spent in mountain huts — a comfortable choice for those who prefer proper shelter instead of tents.
The day begins with an early, energizing breakfast before you set out from Mandara Hut toward Horombo Hut (3,720 m / 12,202 ft), your next high-altitude overnight stop. As you arrive at camp, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of both Kibo and Mawenzi — two of Kilimanjaro’s iconic volcanic peaks.
A few hours after lunch, you’ll take an acclimatization hike toward Kibo Hut, gaining about 200 m / 656 ft before returning to Horombo Hut. This short hike is an important step in helping your body adjust to the elevation. Afterward, you’ll head back to camp where dinner will be waiting and you can rest for the night.
After breakfast, you’ll take an acclimatization hike toward Kibo Hut before returning to Horombo Camp. This gentle outing helps your body adjust to the increasing altitude and prepares you for the days ahead.
After lunch, you’ll have free time to explore the surrounding area, capture photos of the striking Mawenzi Volcano, or simply rest and recharge before tomorrow’s journey to Kibo Hut. To support a smooth acclimatization process, your team will spend another night at Horombo Hut, staying at the same altitude for optimal adjustment.
After breakfast, you’ll begin your trek toward Kibo Hut (4,720 m / 15,482 ft). The trail itself is not overly challenging, but it’s important to maintain a steady, comfortable pace to conserve energy for the upcoming summit push. Once you arrive at camp, lunch will be served, and the rest of the afternoon is dedicated to rest. We encourage you to relax, avoid any unnecessary exertion, drink plenty of water, and get as much sleep as possible to prepare for the night’s ascent.
Your summit push begins at night as you leave Kibo Hut (4,720 m / 15,482 ft) and make your way toward Uhuru Peak (5,895 m / 19,336 ft), the highest point in Africa. The trail itself isn’t technically difficult, but the high altitude makes this section physically demanding. To ensure your safety and success, each pair of climbers is accompanied by a dedicated guide who closely monitors your pace, energy levels, and overall well-being throughout the ascent.
After reaching the iconic Uhuru Peak and celebrating your achievement, you may choose to walk down to the nearby glacier for photos before beginning your descent. You’ll return to Kibo Hut for a well-earned two-hour rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut (3,720 m / 12,202 ft) for the night.
In the morning, you’ll enjoy a warm, satisfying breakfast before beginning your final descent toward the Marangu Gate (1,970 m / 6,462 ft), the official exit of Kilimanjaro National Park. Once you arrive, the group will come together to celebrate your accomplishment, and you’ll have the opportunity to leave your thoughts and memories in the climbers’ guestbook. To mark your achievement, you’ll receive your summit certificates before being transferred back to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.
After breakfast on the final morning, you are transferred back toward Arusha and onward to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure flight. Your 5-day Tanzania Kilimanjaro trek — part of the Tanzania Globe Tour — concludes, leaving you with memories of varied ecosystems and the wild heart of Tanzania.
